Potluck Repair Buffet Foundational Jewelry Repair and Alteration Techniques with Basic Goldsmithing. (*Intermediate/Advanced only. Must have taken at least 2 beginner classes here or elsewhere.) Free open studio access is included in the course Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Description: Learn the foundations of jewelry repair, alterations, and beginning gold-smithing. Bring in your drawer of broken, bent, tarnished, tangled, and mangled pieces. Bring your ill-fitting rings. We will use your broken treasures and current customer examples from Drew's repair business, to demonstrate and explore foundational techniques in evaluation, repair, and alteration of jewelry. -Fine and otherwise. Basic gold-smithing will be covered as well as other relevant and transferable metal-smithing skills, including pulse-welding and mirror finishes. Repair is a thrifty skill that is rewarding on a number of levels. Repairing an object is a fine way to understand how things are made and increase your smithing skills. Resurrecting treasured items with emotional value is priceless. Syllabus: 1 Repair discussion and intro. Evaluating damage and materials. To repair or not to repair, that is the question. Forming a plan to execute repairs and alterations. 2 intro to gold-smithing, gold soldering, oxyacetylene torch. Low-temp/no-heat joining and soldering, torch-less repairs. Pulse welder, micro-welding. Chains. Ring Sizing. Soldering with stones, and close to sensitive or delicate areas. Finishes, finishing, restoring finishes, mirror finish, and cleaning. Cancellation policy- We understand life happens. If you need to cancel your class reservation, please let us know as soon as possible; one day minimum before your class starts. This is important because all tuition goes towards student materials and instructor contracts. Once class begins, your materials have been ordered, instructor contracts are established and the option to offer the seat to someone else has passed, we can not issue any sort of refund. This is firm. Benches On Division uses all funds for studio materials and payroll. We do not maintain any funds for profit. If you fear you may miss a few classes, we are happy to do what ever we can to set up a compensatory make up for you. *Cancel 2 weeks+ in advance, receive a full refund. Cancel 13-8 days in advance, receive a 90% refund. Cancel 1 week or less in advance, receive an 80% refund. Your cancellation will be acknowledged the day you make contact. E.g. if you email us to cancel exactly 2 weeks before class, but you don't hear from us until the next day, your cancellation still counts as 2 weeks notice. Refund processing can take a few days.
